Start here at the Introduction: The Journey Begins
The Journey: Part 14 - Confirmation of our Spiritual Foundation
Having come through many of the key points in the foundational book of Romans, and having learned from Romans chapters 6 and 7, and from the lessons learned by the Corinthian and Galatian churches about the perils of living by the flesh or by the law, we are now reaching a milestone in our journey of learning to grow in spirit and maturity in Christ.
Of course, we should not press forward without ensuring that we practice the things we have learned. We need to ensure that our learning is not just head-knowledge, but that it is truly edifying the spirit of our mind, that it is becoming a lifestyle, not just a fleeting burst of revelation that is soon forgotten again.
If the foundational truths of Romans has truly been embedded in you, you will see a change in your life. You will experience an increase in faith and in fellowship with the indwelling Spirit of Christ. You will have a deeper understanding of the vanity of the flesh, and you will have a deep trust in the work of God in Christ, that separated you by death from the Adamic nature of sin and the bondage of the law, and joined you to the righteousness and freedom of Christ.
If Romans has taken hold of your mind, you will no longer be in condemnation, because you would have learned that your old life with all its rebellion and faults has been put to death. Instead, you will now be in a process of transforming your thoughts and life by renewing your mind to the truth about who you are in Christ, fully justified, made whole and looking ahead, to how you can serve and honour God through the knowledge of His written Word and how that Christ can be formed in you to the glory of God and His purpose for you.
This is your foundational experience. It is all contained within the knowledge of Romans and how much it has impacted your heart. It is only at this stage where we can consider moving forwards into the next leg of this journey towards maturity in Christ. If you choose to press on, it is important to ensure that your foundation is solidly grounded and stable. What is our foundation at this point? It is FAITH! From faith to faith. Faith in what we learned in Romans. Faith in God's Word, and not in our flesh abilities or in the laws we make to try and serve God. Faith that what God said about our death to sin, and our resurrection to righteousness, is true, and settled. Faith that God will continue His work within us, to mature us, and form Christ within us. Romans has taught us that we are no longer in the drivers seat, and that our whole life is now given over as a living sacrifice to God, so that He might use us to bring glory to Christ, and reconcile the world to Himself through us.
The next post will be the beginning of a new leg in our journey. Up till now we have been focused on Gods work within us, here, in our current position, edifying our mind, separating us from our Adamic nature, and being fed with the nutritional milk of the Word. Our next leg is going to take us deeper into the spirit, setting our sights on our spiritual position and function within the Body of Christ, and glimpsing into our purpose from a heavenly perspective and on an eternal scale. There is still much to learn and discover on our journey as we grow up in our knowledge of God's Word, having Christ formed within us. Let us press on now to have God build upon this foundation that was laid, using gold, silver and precious stones, 1 Cor.3:12-13.
God bless.
