The Slide of Compromise: From a Step to a Seat

The Slide of Compromise: From a Step to a Seat

Ps.1:1-2: “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.”

It always begins with a single, seemingly harmless step. Nobody wakes up one morning and decides to completely abandon their foundation to sit among those who mock everything holy. Instead, it is a quiet, steady drift—a slow, three-stage spiral that coaxes a person from movement, to a standstill, to a permanent seat in the wrong company.

The danger of this slide is how normal it feels while it is happening. The enemy does not invite you to leap into the abyss; he simply invites you to take a casual stroll, slow your pace, and eventually rest. By understanding this progressive trap, we can guard our hearts before the drift begins.

Stage 1: The Casual Drift (Walking)

Imagine strolling down a path. You are just passing through, minding your own business, when you hear a voice. This is the stage of walking. It feels completely harmless because you are still moving; you haven't stopped or committed to anything. You are simply passing by. But as you walk, you find yourself listening to the advice and letting the mindset of the ungodly whisper in your ear.

The ungodly are not necessarily monsters; they are simply people who live their daily lives without reference to God. They advise, reason, and make choices as if He simply does not exist. In the mind, this stage begins with curiosity. You think, I am just listening, it won't affect me. But the human mind is highly adaptable. By casually walking in their counsel, you begin to let their godless logic subtly nudge your direction. The voice of truth is not violently silenced; it is merely crowded out by the reasonable, secular arguments of the world. You are still on your feet, but your compass is already starting to drift.

Stage 2: The Comfortable Pause (Standing)

If you listen to the whispers long enough, your pace begins to slacken. The constant stream of godless reasoning slowly wears down your resistance. Eventually, you slow down, and then, you stop. You are now standing. The casual walk has turned into a lingering pause. You are no longer just passing through the crowd; you have adopted their lifestyle and are now comfortable spending your time there.

In the heart, a quiet shift has occurred. The things that once bothered your conscience now feel normal. Your spiritual senses are dulled, and you begin to tolerate what you once avoided. At this stage, your companions change from the ungodly to sinners. These are individuals who are no longer just godless in their thoughts—they are actively walking in known disobedience. Their "way" is a practiced, comfortable path of compromise. By standing with them, you align yourself with their habits and begin to adapt to their lifestyle. You are no longer an observer; you are now a participant in the environment of compromise.

Stage 3: The Permanent Settling (Sitting)

Finally, the transition is complete. Your legs grow tired of standing on the fence, and you pull up a chair. Sitting implies permanence, agreement, and fully joining the ranks. You have settled down, fixed your position, and completely identified yourself with the crowd.

Here, you take your place among the scornful. These are the cynics who have progressed beyond merely practicing sin; they actively mock truth, holiness, and righteousness. They ridicule what is right. By sitting in their seat, you have joined in their mockery, fully adapted to the very things you once walked past. The transformation is total. The heart that was once warm to the things of God has grown cold, cynical, and hard.

The Parallel Danger: How the Light Goes Out

To understand what happens in the unseen spiritual realm during this spiral, we must look at a powerful parallel in the New Testament:

Eph.4:17-19: “This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.”

This passage perfectly mirrors the progressive slide of Psalm 1. It shows how the light is subtly extinguished in a person's life. It begins in the "vanity of their mind"—the vain, godless reasoning of the ungodly. If we walk in that vanity, our understanding becomes darkened. We are drawn away from the life of God through ignorance and a hardening of the heart.

Eventually, just like the person who sits in the seat of the scornful, they become "past feeling." The conscience is seared. The darkness that started as a small shadow now completely dominates. But the Apostle Paul immediately follows this warning with a powerful truth: “But ye have not so learned Christ” (Eph.4:20). We are not called to walk in darkness, because we have been given the light of life.

The Turnaround: Dwell in Light and Peace

While this downward spiral is a sobering warning, it also lights the path to our restoration. We do not have to be victims of the drift. We can intentionally reverse this process. We do not have to stop and listen to the counsel of the world; we can walk right past it.

Instead of lingering in places of compromise, we can choose to stand still and sit only where God’s word is actively spoken. We are called to linger and sit in the company of the righteous—those who speak the truth of scripture and lift up the praise of God in Jesus Christ. True safety, peace, and light are found when we settle down, rest, and meditate on His scriptures day and night.

Turn your back on the counsel of the world and step into the place where His word dwells richly. When you choose to sit at His feet, you find a firm anchor that no downward spiral can ever pull away.

Doctrinal Anchor:

Guard your pace and your place; refuse to pause where the world compromises, and choose to settle only where truth abides.

Col.3:16: — “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”

If our future is determined for us by God, then how do we have free will like the Bible says?

QUESTION:

If our future is determined for us by God, then how do we have free will like the Bible says?

ANSWER:

Isaiah confirms the following,

Isa 46:10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

This scripture tells us that God has planned and determined the beginning and the end of everything in existence. It tells us that God is outside of the realm of time which He has created. This means that God is omnipresent and can be present in the beginning of time as well as at the end of time, or anywhere in between, simultaneously. In addition, God is omniscient and is not limited in knowledge, knowing the end from the beginning, knowing how all things work out and align up, as these verses prove,

Heb 4:13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

1Jn 3:20 For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.

With this in mind, let's get back to the details of the question, “Is our future really determined for us by God?”

What do we do between justification and glorification?

What do we do between justification and glorification?

Rom 8:30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

Paul tells us that if we truly believe in Jesus Christ by hearing and responding to the grace gospel, we are freely justified by the ‘decree’ of God, and we can have peace with God, and access to the grace that He provides, Rom 5:1-2.

Through faith in the gospel of grace, we are transferred from the administration of death, which is in Adam, into the administration of life, which is in Christ. When we belong to Christ’s administration, we are now identified with righteousness, peace, and life, as Paul continues to tell us,

Rom 5:17-19 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) (18) Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. (19) For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

All this activity happens the moment God saves us. We do not feel anything new. We do not sense anything different. Nothing changes in our flesh or in our mind. What has changed has all happened in the spiritual realm. We have a new relationship to God. We are identified in Christ. We are sealed into the family of God. We know this and believe this because the written Word tells us.

So, what now? If I’m saved in my spirit, what happens to my life here on earth? What happens in my circumstances? What do I do from here on?

Complicated Christianity is Not Biblical

Complicated Christianity is Not Biblical

2Cor 11:3  But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ

There are a few things this verse tells us.

First, Satan, through subtlety and craftiness will beguile people by enticing or luring them into a form of godliness, 2Tim 3:5, which appears genuine and sincere, but has slight deviations from the truth, consequently nullifying the grace of God and diluting the doctrine, Gal 5:3-4, like a little leaven that affects the whole lump, Gal 5:9.

Religion is one of the primary lures that deceives many. Religion focuses on an outward form of piety. All the rules, demands, holydays, observances, traditions, rituals, and practices, are all just a performance system that glorifies the flesh, or the outer man. There is such complexity in some of these religious practices that the Bible is utterly lost in all the theology and identity promoted by that institution.

What are our ambassadorial duties in this broken world?

What are our ambassadorial duties in this broken world?

The world is in a mess, right! So, what are we to be doing about it? I hear so many ‘Christians’ saying that we need to resist the changes happening in this age and make our mark on society. I don’t know about you, but I think this is the wrong mindset! If you know Bible prophecy, you will know that what is happening in the world today is part of God’s plan. I like to say that things are not falling apart (as so many think), rather things are starting to fall into place! This gives me such hope for our Lord’s soon return.

Does God expect us to halt the immorality of man? Does God expect us to stop the rise of evil? Does God expect us to disarm the Antichrist and spoil his plans? Of course not! Again, these things MUST take place. Judgement is coming upon the world. So, what then does God expect of us?

'CHANGE IN COMMUNICATION'

Point #1

Even though Peter and John were disciples of Christ and had intimate knowledge of His teachings and life, it's only later, in their epistles that they write about the concepts of grace, the cross, and the redemptive blood, (which was never mentioned in the Gospels or Acts). Where did they get it from? Well, they learned it from the revelations that Paul received from the glorified Christ.
