God's Indescribable Gift

God's Indescribable (Unspeakable) Gift

2 Cor.9:15 Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable [indescribable] gift.

Rom.5:17 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)

Rom.6:23 for the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord

Eph.2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God

Paul says it like this in 2 Corinthians 9:15, "Thanks be to God for His unspeakable gift". What is this gift? It is Christ who came to complete a work on our behalf; His cross-work, to die for us, to be buried, and to rise again for us and for our justification. It is an unspeakable gift! The word 'unspeakable' means to not able to be expressed in words, to wonder for words beyond the human vocabulary. What an indescribable gift!

If we focus on this gift, which is Christ, all other gifts will fade away really fast! This unspeakable gift is larger than life and it is far more than we can EVER comprehend. Creation was phenomenal, but not indescribable. The universal flood was impossible, but not indescribable! The destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah was frightening, Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his son, remarkable, Moses leading the Israelites out of Egypt, fantastic, crossing the Red Sea, mighty and magnificent, but not indescribable! Building the tabernacle was impressive, building the temple, amazing, David's killing of the Giant was shocking, prophets prophesying was mind-boggling, the preservation of scriptures is astonishing, but none of it is indescribable!

Now think through these words; phenomenal, impossible, frightening, remarkable, fantastic, mighty, magnificent, impressive, amazing, shocking, mind-boggling, astonishing. As descriptive and defining these words are, as much as they evoke admiration and awe, they are not indescribable! But when we come to the gift, we don't have words to explain it. Even Paul who was moved by the Spirit to write the scripture, who had seen the third heaven, was unable to find the words for this unspeakable gift.

Never get over the thrill of it, never get to the point where you don't say 'thank you Lord'. Think about it again as we read Philippians 2:5, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross."

Unspeakable! Indescribable! This is our God and this Gift is forever for us. Amen.
