Be vigilant of false teachers and always confirm everything by what the Word actually says
This post contains someone's reaction to the following post:
Sadly, the below reaction is a common event. It illustrates the level of shallowness in Bible study and blatant ignorance of God's Word. It also shows how the pride and presumption of people like this can so easily lead other Christians astray, who are not yet stable in the Word, and who can be tossed to and fro, carried about with every wind of doctrine, (Eph.4:14).
Please evaluate the statements below and then read my response attentively to observe what the Bible 'really' says about our salvation and standing before God.
REACTION TO THIS POST:
the 1 Verse GOSPEL —- NO EXCEPTIONS
------>>> Being Born Again is a Spiritual Requirement --- For Salvation...
AnyOne Who is.. NOT ... born again of The Holy Spirit... is.. NOT .. Saved -- John 3:3, 5
AnyOne Who Doesn't Have the Same Spirit as Jesus...is NOT Saved -- Romans 8:9
AnyOne Who Doesn't Carry their cross & Follow Him...is NOT Saved -- Matt 16:24-26 / Mark 8:34 37 / Luke 9:23-25
AnyOne Who is.. NOT...Led by the Holy Spirit is..NOT Saved -- Romans 8:14
AnyOne Who Doesn't Know my Fathers Will for their Life...is NOT SAVED -- Matt 7:21
---->>> Ephesians 5:18 --- Be FILLED... with the HOLY SPIRIT...
AnyOne Who Doesn't Obey Jesus...is NOT SAVED -- Hebrews 5:9
AnyOne Who Doesn't Know His Voice & Follow Him...is NOT SAVED -- John 10:27
RESPONSE:
I can dismiss all the non-Pauline phrases as that is not our doctrine today and does not determine our salvation in this grace period.
As for your two phrases from Romans, let’s analyze these:
You say: AnyOne Who Doesn't Have the Same Spirit as Jesus...is NOT Saved -- Romans 8:9
Really? What does my King James bible say?
Rom 8:9 “Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.”
Can you see a difference? It does not say, the 'SAME' spirit. It says, ‘THE Spirit of Christ’. I do not have to try to become like Jesus. At salvation, I am baptized into His death (PS: not water!), buried with Him, and am raised into newness of life. It is not a matter of forming a 'same' spirit within me, but Christ Himself comes to live in me,
Gal.2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
What is salvation? To believe in Jesus Christ. In other words, to be saved, I believe in Jesus and God regenerates me. A (spiritual) inner man is created within me which is justified and imputed with the righteousness of Christ. As the Word of God (which is His Spirit and life, Jn 6:63) gets into me by studying it, it is forming Christ within me, Gal.4:19.
Hallelujah!
Now, let's look at your other verse,
AnyOne Who is.. NOT...Led by the Holy Spirit is..NOT Saved -- Romans 8:14
The actual bible says:
Rom 8:14 "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God."
Do you know anything about the Corinthians? Let me give you a bit of actual Bible study, instead of just butchering a single verse. here is a list of the carnal, sinful, practices of babes in Christ, as Paul calls them,
CORINTHIANS ISSUES:
- Factions (Divisions, Disputes) in the church (1cr 1:1-4:21)
- Sexual immorality (1cr 5:1-13)
- Lawsuits among brethren (1cr 6:1-11)
- Moral defilements (1cr 6:12-20 --- v13)
- Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. (Indulgence, Gluttony, Greed)
- Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body. (Sex outside marriage, adultery)
- Eating meats sacrificed to idols (1cr 8:1-11:1)
- Marriage & celibacy (1cr 7:1-40)
- Women praying and prophesying with heads uncovered (1cr 11:2-16)
- The Lord's supper (Defilement, Irreverence, Disrespect) (1cr 11:17-34)
- Spiritual gifts (Envying, Bragging, Comparisons) (1cr 12:1-14:40)
All this was rampant in the Corinthian church. So, where is the Spirit here? There is none being led by the Spirit. How could they if they were so carnal. Paul says the following,
Rom.8:5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. 8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
Pretty dark, eh?!
BUT! Let me tell you something you don’t know. Of all the grievances listed above, these Corinthians were STILL SAVED. Notice Paul's intro into the epistle,
1 Cor.1:2 Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both their's and our's: 3 Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
Yikes!!! How could Paul say that to a bunch of wild sinners???
Well. They believed in Jesus. They heard and responded in faith to the grace gospel. God justified them, not by their ‘righteousness’, but by the righteousness of Christ.
Rom.5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: 2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
God saves people because they believe in His Son, not because they are ‘led by the Spirit’.
Being led by the Spirit is a product of studying the Word and getting it into your soul. To the extent that the Word of God is in you, is the extent that it flows out of you. When the Word flows out of you and influences your thoughts, behaviours, reactions and speech, then you are led by the Holy Spirit. Walking by the Spirit is the outflow of the Word of God within you. Nothing more, nothing less. Salvation occurs BEFORE being led by the Spirit. Salvation does not depend on being led by the Spirit, as the Corinthians have proved.
I encourage you to do some much-needed Bible study. Stop just quoting random scriptures out of context. You can hurt the faith of less mature believers. Read Romans 14 and start putting that into practice.
