Be vigilant of false teachers and always confirm everything by what the Word actually says

Sadly, the below reaction is a common event. It illustrates the level of shallowness in Bible study and blatant ignorance of God's Word. It also shows how the pride and presumption of people like this can so easily lead other Christians astray, who are not yet stable in the Word, and who can be tossed to and fro, carried about with every wind of doctrine, (Eph.4:14).

Please evaluate the statements below and then read my response attentively to observe what the Bible 'really' says about our salvation and standing before God.

In 1 Cor.13, Paul says the following,

1Co 13:8-10 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. 9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

With this in mind, questions can arise from reading 1 Cor.14 where Paul encourages the desire and practice of spiritual gifts. In addition to this, what exactly is tongues? Is it the ability to supernaturally speak in foreign human languages that one has not learned, or is it an unintelligible language that is practiced in many church denominations today? Let’s see what the Bible has to say about all this.

The Corinthian church was established during the transitional period, where Israel, as a nation, and their prophetic program, was diminishing. God was turning His attention to the grace program, under commission of Paul, where both Jews and Gentiles were being saved by grace alone through the cross of Christ, and not by means of Israel.

The Bible provides several explicit teachings on how to live like Christ. Here are some key principles and instructions:

Love God and love others: Jesus taught that the greatest commandments are to love God with all your heart, soul, and mind, and to love your neighbour as yourself (Matthew 22:37-40). This emphasis on love is foundational to living a Christ-like life.

Follow Jesus' example: Jesus is the perfect example of how to live a righteous and holy life. Believers are called to follow His footsteps, imitate His actions, and adopt His attitudes (1 Peter 2:21, Philippians 2:5-8).

Most Christians, when asked this question, will turn to the four Gospels in the Bible, and point to all manner of verses that Jesus taught, from the Beatitudes to the parables.

• Do unto others as you would have them do unto you (Matthew 7:12).

RESPONSE TO SUCH IGNORANCE

The above commentary is fairly typical of people out there who respond to doctrine and bible studies through arrogance and immaturity. They are the 'know-it-alls' who themselves have closed their hearts and minds to sound instruction and correction. Beware of the advice and vanity they post. Always compare scripture with scripture and ensure you have scriptural proof of any comments and opinions before taking it to heart and setting your faith upon it.
