What ‘work’ will survive at the Judgement Seat of Christ
1Co 3:11-15 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. (12) Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; (13) Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. (14) If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. (15) If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
So many of us think that when we stand
before the judgement seat of Christ, we will be judged by what we did in this
life. The Bema Seat of Christ has got nothing to do with what you did in this
life. It has all to do with what you know. It is essentially a judgement of one’s
knowledge concerning Paul’s doctrine and your growth in it.
Rom 2:16 In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.
The gold silver and precious stones is the knowledge that you have of Christ in you. It is how much of Christ has formed within you by the wisdom and knowledge that you have acquired through studying His Word
Pro 24:3-5 Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established: (4) And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches. (5) A wise man is strong; yea, a man of knowledge increaseth strength.
The judgement is about how much God sees
His Son in you. We are told to die to self so that Christ can live in us. That
can only come as we are influenced by the Word, so that in obedience, we live
it out into this world; from our renewed mind, out of our flesh, into this
world through a labour of love.
Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
The work which we will be judged for is not
our own work. Work that comes from our own efforts, no matter how sincere and
humble, is work that is the wood, hay, and stubble, and will be burned up in
the fires of judgement. These are materials that come from a carnal source and
have no value in a spiritual kingdom.
The works that equate to gold, silver, and
precious stones, is work that does not come from our human efforts. It is not even
‘our’ works. The works that will be treasured is the work that God performs out
of us. It is work that originates from the truth of God’s Word built up and
evident within us. It comes from studying God’s eternal Word. It comes from the
living Word within us working its way out of us, influencing our thoughts, our habits,
our speech, our actions, and our choices. It is the Word flowing in and through
us that causes us to walk after the Spirit and to live by faith. God’s work becomes
evident in and through us when we obey that which wells up within us in the
circumstances of life.
Rom 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
Rom 16:26 … according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:
It is up to us to allow the Word every
opportunity to influence us, to change us, and to thrive within us. This will
result in the reward that God would desire to give us in that great and blessed
day.
2Ti 3:16-17 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: (17) That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
1Th 2:13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.
