An instrument of reconciliation in the hands of God
2Co 5:18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; … 21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Reading through this passage recently, it just struck me anew at how plain and simple our faith and standing is with God.
All things are of God. God has the supreme authority to choose and declare His will upon mankind. Who are we to resist or challenge it! Who are we, being the clay, to voice out what we think the Potter must do to save us, and how! It is God, who in His administration, chose to reconcile us to Himself, by the sole means of His Son, Jesus Christ, so that the Son alone may be honoured with all glory and power.
Does this act of love not reflect the pure nature of our Great God. While we were sinners, Jesus Christ, who knew no sin, died for us, willingly, and in our place, that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him. Where is the boasting then? In what part of this arrangement can we glory? What did we do to contribute to this transaction? How can we even think it right to make ourselves appear worthy of such a gift by means of outward forms of piety and pride, which is the root of all religious complexities, deviations, and dispute.
How can we show our appreciation? Is it not to simply receive the goodness of God and choose to observe His desire that we reconcile others to His great love. How do we pay His goodness forward? It needs to be done from a heart of thankfulness and gratitude. We need to remember who we were and how far down God had to reach to save us, and then do the same to others, sharing the love of Christ, and the hope He offers. Let us lay aside the pride of the flesh and the vanities we so love to glory in and be an instrument of reconciliation in the hands of God.
