Explain how the doctrine taught by Paul is different to that taught by Peter?

QUESTION:

I don’t see how the doctrine Paul taught differed from Peter (as an example) except Paul preached to the Gentiles and Peter to the Jews (who knew the Torah). If you are claiming the doctrine that Paul taught supersedes or is the only way to “get off the milk” of a new believer, which verses would you specifically point to and why?

ANSWER:

The answer is too extensive to write in one reply as it concerns the whole of Paul’s revelation of the risen and glorified Christ, however, I can provide a few thought-provoking scriptures that you can read and consider.

You have two statements I can respond to (in very short summation),

1. I don’t see how the doctrine Paul taught differed from Peter (as an example) except Paul preached to the Gentile and Peter to the Jew (who knew the Torah).

The doctrine that Peter taught is different to that of Paul. The foundation from which Peter taught is prophetic. Paul taught what he terms as ‘mysteries’ because they were never prophesied before and are unsearchable in the prophetic scriptures, Eph 3:8. His doctrine is not based on a prophetic foundation, but on a foundation that he laid according to 1Co 3:10. Let me prove it with the following scripture passages, for now. (I can supply many more proofs for more detail later).

Peter:

The entire passage below is based on the prophetic scriptures. Repentance, blotting out sins, times of refreshing, and restitution of all things, are all quotes from the prophets. Besides, Peter even confirms it with the statement, ‘spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began’,

Act 3:19-21  Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;  (20)  And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you:  (21)  Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.

Paul:

The scripture below provides a few interesting details. Paul is ending off his letter to the Romans and he says that the doctrine he wrote to them is able to stablish (stabilize) them in the faith. How that stablishment comes is FIRST by being saved according to HIS gospel. Not the Kingdom-based gospel taught by the 12-apostles for Israel, but his grace gospel which concerns the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, 1Cor 15:1-4. Interesting to note that the Kingdom gospel that Peter preached did not feature the cross at all. Just review Acts 2:37-39. SECOND, Paul speaks of the ‘preaching of Jesus Christ according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, but now is made manifest’. This is the essence of Paul’s doctrine. I cannot give all the details now, suffice to say that it was a MYSTERY, and it was KEPT SECRET by God until it was revealed to Paul, and he started preaching it, hence the words, ‘BUT NOW’. Thus, how could Peter be preaching the same thing as Paul, if Paul only got saved a few years after Pentecost. The bottom line is that Jesus revealed revelations to Paul OUTSIDE of the prophetic scriptures and sent him to the Gentiles with this unique message designed for all nations.

Rom 16:25-26 Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, (26) But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:

Let me give one more scripture that blew my mind when I first got informed about the mystery doctrine. Just mull over what Paul said here,

2Co 5:16-17  Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.  (17)  Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

How can Paul say that now henceforth know we him (Jesus) no more? Paul is referring to Jesus earthly ministry. He is saying that we do not associate with the earthly ministry of Jesus, because Jesus came for the Jews and he taught according to the law and concerning the ‘Millennial’ kingdom, to prepare the Jews for inheriting that kingdom. Jesus himself says that he was send ONLY to the lost sheep of the house of Israel, Mat 15:24. As you can see, this goes against much of what the denominational church teaches today. They preach Jesus Christ in his earthly ministry which is addressed to Israel exclusively. That is why Paul says that we should preach Jesus Christ according to the revelation of the mystery. In other words, we preach Jesus not according to what prophecy tells, but according to the mystery doctrine revealed to Paul and captured in his epistles. The mystery doctrine paints a very different image of Jesus Christ than what Peter portrays in the Kingdom doctrine. Thus, the doctrine of Paul and Peter, though focused on Christ (the only foundation) are different, because one is a doctrine of the Messiah for Israel and an earthly inheritance, and the other is a doctrine of the risen Christ for the Body of Christ with a heavenly inheritance.

2. If you are claiming the doctrine that Paul taught supersedes or is the only way to “get off the milk” of a new believer, which verses would you specifically point to and why?

Regarding your above comment. Paul’s doctrine does not supersede that of Peter. These are two different dispensations. What Peter taught was 100% correct for the prophetic and Kingdom dispensation. However, this dispensation was suspended due to the unbelief of Israel. Paul tells us in Rom 11:25 that the Jews were blinded temporarily so that salvation could go to the Gentiles through the fall of Israel, which, by the way, is one of the mysteries that was NEVER prophesied. All of prophecy claims that Gentiles will be saved and come to the light of Israel’s rising and pre-eminence.

In the same way, Paul’s mystery doctrine is 100% correct for the dispensation of grace which started after the Jews were blinded by God for a season. So, there is no replacing one doctrine for the other. They run in sequence. Peter preached the Kingdom doctrine until God suspended that program. Then Paul preached the mystery doctrine, which is still the doctrine for today and until the Body of Christ is filled up and caught up to heaven. The same Kingdom doctrine will be preached again at the 7-year tribulation when God reactivates the suspended prophetic program to fulfil prophecy. Thus, there are two programs, each having their unique place and purpose in the whole redemption plan of God.

For us to grow in spirit and have Christ formed within us, we need to be focused on Paul’s mystery doctrine. God is not operating in the prophetic Kingdom program at this time. The mystery doctrine does not concern Israel and their blessings and gifts and observances and feasts. This will come again after this dispensation, but for now, Paul’s doctrine is entirely based on a spiritual message that prepares us for our purpose and vocation as the heavenly-destined Body of Christ.

God bless.
